My neighbor works for a local union and asked if I could build a large display for their hall. This five foot by three foot IBEW piece was my answer, and the first display I’d built at this scale.
The project also had a personal connection. I spent more than three years as an electrical apprentice before life threw me a curveball, so this build holds a special place in my heart.
I used solid wood construction, including a custom made backer. For the emblem, I made my own vinyl templates and used them to lay down the design and each color. Working with all those small pieces was the biggest challenge, and the detail I’m proudest of. It was a long process, but a fun one.
That’s me, Jon Thetford, beside the finished display. My buddy helped keep it steady and take the photos around Yukon. We live and operate here, and I wanted to show off our hometown along with the work.
